A University of Washington researcher has come under fire for commenting, "may there be a tyler robinson (sic) for you all" in response to a post criticizing a Washington lawmaker for refusing to say there are biological differences between boys and girls. Tyler Robinson is the suspect who has been charged with the September assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Mara Maughan is a research scientist at the University of Washington’s Fuller Lab. Maughan’s biography on the lab’s website, which has since been locked down, states that she uses "she/they" pronouns and works on things including "SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza in vivo challenge trials." SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that caused the pandemic.

Maughan had left the comment on a post from Educational Freedom Institute Executive Director Corey DeAngelis, who tagged journalist BRandi Kruse, which stated, "this Democrat Senator in Washington says he CAN’T acknowledge that there are biological differences between men and women that would give boys advantage over girls in sports. 'I don’t have the scientific expertise to be able to weigh in on that.' Are you kidding me?"

On Facebook, Maughan had followed the Green Party as well as their Washington State and Seattle pages, a page called "Trans Army," and socialist Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson. Maughan’s Facebook account has since been deleted.

Tyler Robinson has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child in connection with the fatal September 10 shooting of Kirk. Kirk had been hosting an event outside on the campus of Utah Valley University when he was shot in the neck.
