Central Florida University has been ordered to rehire Charles Negy, an assistant professor who was fired for a June 2020 tweet about "black privilege."

An arbitrator recently overruled the school's decision to fire him and ordered salary lost during the firing period be paid.

Negy's since-deleted tweet reads: "Black privilege is real: Besides affirm. action, special scholarships and other set asides, being shielded from legitimate criticism is a privilege."

According to Blaze Media, the tweet didn't sit well with many students and faculty.

"There were organized protests, a Change.org petition with nearly 35,000 signatures demanding the university fire Negy, and the Twitter hashtag #UFCFireHim."

The university could not legally fire Negy for expressing a controversial opinion on social media, but it appears the institution engaged in a witch hunt.

Similar to another incident, in which Princeton University targeted one of its professors for speaking out against their institution's "woke" agenda, university officials looked for any pretext to oust Negy.

They finally came across an allegation that Negy "failed to report that a student disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted by one of [his] teaching assistants" in Feb 2014. He was fired from the university in Jan 2021. At the time, university brass also cited "student complains that he allegedly created a hostile learning environment."
