A chemistry teacher at Utah's Lehi High School was placed on administrative leave on Tuesday after a student's recording of their teacher's political rant went viral on social media.
In the video, the Utah teacher takes blows at former President Donald Trump, telling students to "turn off the Fox News," and saying for students to tell on her to administration because "they don't give a crap."
In a statement from Alpine School District officials obtained by KSL, they called the teacher's behavior "inappropriate."
"We became aware late this afternoon of an incident that took place today in one of our high school classrooms. An immediate investigation ensued. The employee has been put on administrative leave pending a thorough investigation. This behavior is inappropriate, not reflective of the professional conduct and decorum we expect of our teachers, and will not be tolerated," they stated.
According to KSL, the video appears to take place during casual conversation, not during a lecture. Students can be hears chatting and laughing in the background.
"You don’t have to do everything your parents say, and you don't have to believe everything your parents believe, because most likely you're smarter than them," she said in one clip of the video, taken by a student at an inconspicuous angle.
"That's pathetic that you think that. You're the problem with the world," she told a student.
"I don't care what y'all think, Trump sucks," she said.
One student could be heard asking in the background, "what's wrong with Trump?"
"He is a sexual predator, he is a literal moron," the teacher said.
Another student pointed out that "this is a chemistry class," to which the teacher responded "go tattle on me to the freaking admins, they don't give a crap."
One student shot back "Joe Biden is a pedophile."
"No he is not," she responded, adding "turn off the Fox News."
In a statement Tuesday, the Utah Republican Party condemned the video, saying that it's "nothing short of appalling."
"This was absolutely distasteful and does not represent Utah. This type of rhetoric should not be tolerated in the slightest. We are grateful that the Alpine School District took quick action," party officials said. "We encourage parents to have open conversations with their children about what is being taught in schools."
