The vast majority of Republicans in New Hampshire support the notion that former President Donald J. Trump deserves to have presidential immunity from prosecution relating to actions he had taken during his time in the White House.

In a recent Marist poll, voters were asked "Do you think Donald Trump should have immunity from criminal prosecution for actions he took while he was president?"

Results show that 69 percent of Republican voters answered yes, compared to 29 percent of Independents who provided the same answer.

Democrat voters were far less receptive of Trump having presidential immunity with 95 preventing voting against it, according to the poll.

This survey of 1,299 New Hampshire residents above the age of 18 was conducted January 15 through January 17.

The results come as Donald Trump, who is the 2024 GOP frontrunner in the presidential election, has been the victim of multiple criminal indictments at the hands of President Biden's Justice Department.

Trump claims that Biden has weaponized the Department of Justice to target his top political opponent, and has called the many indictments against him "election interference."

Biden's Special Counsel Jack Smith has hammered down an indictment for Donald Trump's alleged role in the events that unfolded at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Smith has also indicted Trump over classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago residence in West Palm Beach, Florida.

On Thursday, Trump urged the Supreme Court to overturn the ruling that removed him from the Colorado primary ballot, citing a "dubious interpretation" of the Fourteenth Amendment as the basis for the decision. The Colorado Supreme Court removed him from the ballot on "insurrection" allegations relating to the Jan. 6 case.

On Wednesday, Trump issued a post on Truth Social in defense of immunity for all presidents.

"A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MUST HAVE FULL IMMUNITY, WITHOUT WHICH IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM/HER TO PROPERLY FUNCTION. ANY MISTAKE, EVEN IF WELL INTENDED, WOULD BE MET WITH ALMOST CERTAIN INDICTMENT BY THE OPPOSING PARTY AT TERM END. EVEN EVENTS THAT “CROSS THE LINE” MUST FALL UNDER TOTAL IMMUNITY, OR IT WILL BE YEARS OF TRAUMA TRYING TO DETERMINE GOOD FROM BAD. THERE MUST BE CERTAINTY. EXAMPLE: YOU CAN’T STOP POLICE FROM DOING THE JOB OF STRONG & EFFECTIVE CRIME PREVENTION BECAUSE YOU WANT TO GUARD AGAINST THE OCCASIONAL “ROGUE COP” OR “BAD APPLE.” SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH “GREAT BUT SLIGHTLY IMPERFECT.” ALL PRESIDENTS MUST HAVE COMPLETE & TOTAL PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY, OR THE AUTHORITY & DECISIVENESS OF A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WILL BE STRIPPED & GONE FOREVER. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE AN EASY DECISION. GOD BLESS THE SUPREME COURT!" wrote Trump.

The battleground state of New Hampshire will be the first in the nation to hold its primary election later this month.
