Virginia Democrat Susanna Gibson is now claiming to be the victim of invasion of privacy after her campaign for a seat in the state House of Delegates was upended when Republican operatives brought light to recorded online videos of her having sex with her husband for money.

After GOP operatives broke the story ahead of election day, Gibson said she was subjected to "an illegal invasion of my privacy designed to humiliate me and my family," per Fox News

In an interview with Politico, the former candidate said that when she found out that the sexually explicit videos of her were online from national reporters "it is a feeling that I would not wish on my worst enemy."

Gibson said the article, was "written based on this Dropbox file that self-described Republican operatives shopped around." She claimed, "They had found these videos on the dark web and shopped them around to various news outlets. I didn’t have any idea that there were ever videos of me that had been made and uploaded to multiple sites."

When the story was broken by the Washington Post in September, it was revealed that, in many of the videos, she was with her husband live on camera urging viewers to give them "tips" for certain requests.

To Politico, Gibson said she "hired an amazing attorney who worked around the clock and wrote them several letters, essentially saying: To be clear, Ms. Gibson never acknowledged or consented to videos being recorded, this is illegal pornography because it is illegal to record someone in a state of undress without consent."

"Content that is initially made in a consensual context, which is then distributed in a non-consensual context digitally, is a crime," she added. "Just because someone consented to share something in one particular context doesn’t mean that it is or should be fair game for the whole world to see."

"When we’re talking live streaming, webcamming, and Skype, that is a far cry from consenting for that content to be recorded and then broadly disseminated. And there is case law precedent confirming this," Gibson stated.

Before attempting to run for office, Gibson was a nurse practitioner near Richmond. She was reported to have performed sex acts on the platform Chaturbate, whose name comes from "the act of masturbating while chatting online." She has maintained that she should have a reasonable expectation of privacy.
