A transgender-identifying male suspect who allegedly planned to carry out a mass shooting at a Las Vegas casino was arrested on Saturday after police recovered dozens of firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
36-year-old Allison Howlett, a biological male who identifies as female, was arrested and charged with making terrorist threats, assault with a deadly weapon, gun theft, auto theft, and other offenses. On a Saturday morning, Howlett’s former spouse called the police to report that Howlett had stolen her car and that the vehicle had multiple firearms in it. According to Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader, Howlett planned to commit “suicide by cop” by carrying out a mass shooting.
The former spouse was able to track the car from her phone and tell cops where it was parked at the Sunset Station Hotel. The officer approached Howlett inside the vehicle, with Howlett refusing to exit. At one point, Howlett asked for water, and as officers brought some over, they proceeded to pull Howlett out of the vehicle.
“When she asked for water, the quick-thinking officers developed a plan to take her into custody as an opportunity arose when she reached for the water,” Rader explained, referring to Howlett as a she. “Officers used that moment to gain control of her hands and remove her from the vehicle.”
Officers pulled Howlett out of the car and immediately found a handgun and an MP5 machine gun in the vehicle. 22 other guns were then recovered along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Upon searching Howlett’s home, 30 more firearms were found, including grenade launcher attachments and automatic weapons.
A report by the New York Post noted that officers determined Howlett had been making threats for years. In a 2024 call, Howlett threatened a mass shooting, saying, “I swear to God, if the FBI doesn’t come f*cking arrest me, there’s gonna be a f*cking mass shooting,” Howlett allegedly said in a recording of the call played at Tuesday’s briefing.
Howlett’s bail was set to half a million dollars during an initial court appearance. He remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
