The suspect, who was wearing an "Anti-fascism" shirt, has been accused of punching the elderly victim several times outside of the Starbucks located at SW 148th Street and Ambaum Boulevard, the sheriff's office said.
The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Highline Journal that he arrived at the anti-ICE protest to peacefully express his support for ICE agents when he found himself surrounded by protesters. He was allegedly shouted at, thrown to the ground, and repeatedly punched.
Authorities are searching for a white male with short brown hair and facial hair, who was wearing a purple t-shirt, khaki pants, and brown and black sneakers, according to the suspect description. His shirt included Antifa propaganda.
The demonstration was promoted online by Des Moines Indivisible, a progressive organization that urged its members to arrive with signs reading, "ICE Kidnapped Your Neighbor Here," according to the local paper.
The victim, a military veteran, said he had respectful conversations with protesters before more arrived and began targeting him, describing the attack as "cowardly."
The incident comes as ICE has increased operations in Burien, a self-declared sanctuary city, in recent weeks and months.
Bystanders have reported ICE arrests occurring outside of Burien Mexican food stores, residential neighborhoods, and city streets.
Despite the violence against him, the victim said he does not regret attending the protest.
"For evil to succeed, all that is necessary is for good men to do nothing," he told Highline Journal, adding that he hopes other people start speaking out in support of ICE. "Stand up, do what's right," he said.
