A CNN pundit suggested that Americans should "mask and social distance every winter."

"As we figure out what flu strains have been circulating in places like Australia, or South America, which should predict what strains are likely to come into our country, there's been so little flu in those two areas I think it's going to be hard for us to figure out what flu strains to pick," the pundit said as regards what flu strains next year's vaccine should innoculate against.

"If we mask, and social distance every winter," he said, "we will see a dramatic reduction in flu, which usually causes hundreds of thousands of hospitalization and tens of thousands of deaths. I wonder if that will be the lesson from this."

This sentiment mirrors that of Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has said similar things as regards masking and the annual winter flu season. President Joe Biden has insisted that Americans "mask up" for his first hundred days in office.

While some states have a mask mandate in place, Florida does not and has been open for business. Their COVID-case counts are comparable to other large states that do have mask mandates. Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday that his state would be lifting their mask mandate and opening fully, as did Mississippi.

Flu deaths are down during this 2020-2021 flu season.
