CNN's Don Lemon defended Vice President Kamala Harris for raising money to get criminals out on bail during the BLM riots over the summer of 2020.
Lemon said that Lindsey "Graham insists anything Trump said leading up to the January 6 insurrection is what Graham calls, and I quote here, 'politically protected speech.' Tell that to the family of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who lost his life after defending lawmakers and our democracy.
"Or yesterday on state tv news, Graham not only defended the former president, claiming the trial was unconstitutional, he threatened someone else with impeachment."
He showed a clip of Senator Lindsey Graham, who said "we've opened Pandora's Box to future presidents" with the impeachment hearing that based the charge of incitement on speech that is protected by the first amendment.
"And if we use this model," Graham told Chris Wallace, "I don't know how Kamala Harris doesn't get impeached if the Republicans take over the House, because she actually bailed out rioters and one of the rioters went back to the streets and broke somebody's head open."
"So, we've opened Pandora's Box here, and I'm sad for the country," Graham said.
"So," Lemon intoned, "Lindsey is reaching, right? If you're wondering what all of this Pandora's Box stuff is about, this is the story: After the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last spring, thousands of people, including Black Lives Matter supporters took to the streets.
"Kamala Harris tweeted support for donations to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. Which helped people post bail if they were arrested while protesting. So let's set the record straight, there was no bailing out, right? Kamala Harris tweeted about a fund to help people post bail which is entirely legal.
"Stop it Lindsey," he scolded the Senator, "you guys know better than that. Well, maybe you don't.
"Donald Trump incited an insurrection at the US Capitol," he said, though the former president has been exonerated of any crime, "people were killed," Lemon said, intoning the five Trump supporters who lost their lives that day.
"Our elected representatives had to run for their lives. Our democracy was in peril. There is no comparison. Lindsey Graham and most of the GOP want to move past the Capitol riot, right? The investigation is far from over," Lemon said.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her Democrat colleagues have called a "9/11 style commission," as well as a "truth commission," and a "white nationalism task force."
In fact, then Senator Harris publicly supported the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which helped a man accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old get out of jail; a second man who assaulted a 71-year-old woman and burglarized her home; and a third man who allegedly stomped on the victim's head before robbing them.
Harris noted that contributions would "help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota," attaching a link to the MFF.
Only about 6 percent of the nearly $3.5 million in funds raised by MFF were spent to bail people out on protest-related charges. 13 Biden campaign staffers donated to the foundation in the first week following Floyd's death.
Don Lemon and CNN want you to believe that telling supporters to peacefully protest is an incitement of a violent insurrection, yet raising money to bail out violent rioters who then go on to violently riot again is somehow in the interest of "justice." These are truly Orwellian times.
