"Europeans conquered this country, yeah they colonized it, but that didn’t have anything to with its founding."

Don Lemon threw a fit on CNN Monday night after former Senator Rick Santorum defended himself following backlash to comments he made at a Young American's Foundation Summit. Santorum, while addressing the students, made the case that America as a nation was founded "predominantly by people who came here to practice their faith," in reference to the European colonists coming to the New World to freely practice their religion.

“I was furious watching that interview in my office. I cannot believe the first words out of his mouth weren’t 'I’m sorry, I said something ignorant, I need to learn about the history of this country.' No contrition! Didn’t talk about the suffering that Native Americans have had to deal with in this country."

"Did he actually think it was a good idea for him to come on television and try to whitewash the whitewash that he whitewashed?! It was horrible and insulting! And I apologize to the viewers who were insulted by it. I was sitting in my office furious because he’s done it so many times! So many times!"

CNN’s Don Lemon was furious over Santorum’s remarks, and said after Santorum appeared on Chris Cuomo's show that "He (Santorum) didn’t apologize for saying something ignorant, he didn’t apologize for not learning about the history of the country." In nearly the same breath Don Lemon said that, "Europeans did not found this country, the Native Americans had it before they came, it was held by them."

Don Lemon sputtered on breathlessly that, "Yeah Europeans conquered this country, yeah they colonized it, but that didn’t have anything to with its founding." Lemon then attempted to gather his thoughts and said, "I'm sorry you can’t look-, listen, I'm sorry that’s all wrong."

Aside from his misunderstanding of how geo-politics work, Lemon himself, doesn’t seem to know much about the history of America, or of the Christian European roots of the founders of the United States.

The United States of America, contrary to Lemon's rant was not founded in a bygone era by a Native American tribe, but by the collective agreement of 13 colonies of overwhelmingly European and Christian heritage in order to break off from the British Empire. In fact of the 56 signatories of the Constitution, the vast majority, if not all, were Christian. All of them were also of European descent, mostly hailing from the British Isles.

Furthermore there was not one Native American state that European colonizers built off to establish the United States. Native American societies did not have a concept of land ownership, rather of mere personal property. Many tribes did not even settle in fixed places, and many tribes encountered by the early colonists had recently driven out the previous Native American inhabitants.
