The head of Ontario's Science Advisory table appeared on CBC's Power & Politics brashly told service industry workers to "stop moaning" about restrictions and the possibility of new, stricter restrictions in the face of the Omicron variant.
"We need to stop moaning, face the reality and do the right thing," said Dr. Peter Jüni, who is calling for "circuit breaker" measures to be deployed. "What do you do if you're on a beach and the tsunami is coming? ...You say, oh there's no tsunami? No, you can't."
The science advisory table has suggested the so-called circuit breaker restrictions be implemented, although they would likely not stop the province from reaching 6,000 to 10,000 cases a day by the year's end.
Reports from the Canadian Medical Association reveal that thousands have suffered and even died as a result of the stringent measures that Jüni is calling for.
Recently, Juni also said that the notion that the Omicron variant is mild is a "myth," and that people needed to stop their "wishful thinking." This despite the variant's skyrocketing numbers with just one person in the world having died "with Omicron."
"This is historical. This is unprecedented. This week Omicron will become the dominant variant in the province... People cannot imagine the sheer scale of what we are talking about here. It is really challenging,"
