Security cams captured footage on Friday of a female LA Country Sheriff's Department officer being repeatedly punched by an inmate after handing him toilet paper.

It appears that the inmate's left wrist, for some reason, was not chained to his waist as it should have been at the time.

The inmate in question, Arnulfo Meza, asked the custody assistant if he could use the restroom. She walked up to him to hand him a roll of toilet paper when he punched her square in the head. He then landed two more blows, which took her down completely. He then climed on top of her to get two more blows in.

Meza then appeared completely relaxed as he walked back to his gurney. The officer got back up and called for back up. Within seconds, multiple officers had arrived and overpowered Meza, strapping him down.

The unnamed female officer is now in stable condition, and continues to receive treatment in hospital.

Meza will now have assault and possibly also hate crime charges levied against him.

"Their commitment to duty and willingness to make sacrifices, sometimes the ultimate sacrifice, are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Department," said Sheriff Alex Villanueva on Twitter, responding to the disturbing video.

LA and California in general have many issues they are facing regarding their prison system.
