Following the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict, Fox News host Laura Ingraham interviewed former President Donald Trump who said there couldn't be a better "poster boy" for self-defense than the recently-acquitted teen.

"I think that it was a great decision," Trump told Ingraham, praising the jury for not caving to outside pressure and delivering a just verdict Friday.

"I was surprised it had to go this far. Somebody should have ended it earlier. Frankly, the case should have never been brought," the former president added Friday night. "It was prosecutorial misconduct in my opinion, and there's plenty of it going on in this country right now. It was disgraceful."

Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger faced intense criticism for his handling of the high-profile case. "The prosecutors, what they did in order to try to win, instead of looking for justice they were just looking for a win. It was probably a political case to a large extent," Trump said in the late-night segment.

Trump called Rittenhouse the "poster boy" for "innocence based on self-defense." Binger had claimed that Rittenhouse lost the right to self-defense because he was "the one who brought the gun" to the scene. The prosecutor claimed that aggressor Joseph Rosenbaum never threatened Rittenhouse's life because there was "no video" of it, despite eye-witness testimony to the contrary.

"I think [Rittenhouse] would have been dead if he waited a quarter of a second when that gun was pointed at his head. That guy was going to pull that trigger. Less than a second [later] he would have been dead," Trump continued. "There would not have been a trial, because they would not have tried the person who pulled the trigger. I was very happy to see it; a lot of people were happy to see it."

There was widespread public concern amid the Rittenhouse trial about potential influence on the jurors by outside agents. MSNBC was banned from the Kenosha courtroom for the remainder of the trial after a man working for the left-wing cable news network or a corporate sibling was pulled over for a traffic violation Wednesday and was suspected of following the jury transport van.

Judge Bruce Schroeder had also reportedly received vile messages, including a death threat against his children, during the course of the trial.

"I didn't know that under your black robes of justice you wear a white robe of the klan. There is no way a fair trial can be heard under your supervision. Better yet, resign," a message addressed to "Your Honor" reads.

Among the most disturbing communications sent to the Schroeder was an email, titled "Kyle," that threatens the lives of the judge's children, promises "pay back," and states that Rittenhouse "won't live long" if acquitted.
