The previous attendance record was 67,733, set by German comedian Mario Barth during a performance at Berlin’s Olympiastadion in 2008, according to Variety.
The record-setting performance is the latest milestone in Gillis’ career. The comedian has sold more than one million tickets while headlining more than 100 shows over the past two years. He has also set all-time attendance records at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, San Francisco’s Chase Center, and Tucson’s Tucson Arena.
Friday night’s show carried special significance for Gillis, who grew up in Pennsylvania and is a longtime Eagles fan. The event featured a number of surprise celebrity guests, including Dave Chappelle, Meek Mill, Jason Kelce, Cooper DeJean, and Jordan Mailata. Kevin Hart has previously held the attendance record at Lincoln Financial Field after selling out the venue with a crowd of roughly 53,000.
Gillis’ popularity has surged in recent years, fueled by the success of his 2021 YouTube special “Shane Gillis: Live in Austin" and his 2023 Netflix special “Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs.” His stardom was also exemplified following the controversy surrounding his brief hiring as a cast member on Saturday Night Live in 2019. Gillis was removed from the cast before ever appearing on the show after past jokes on his podcast resurfaced offline and were deemed too offensive by the showrunners.
More recently, Gillis drew praise for his performance as host of Netflix’s “The Roast of Kevin Hart.”
