The White House's Twitter account has issued a public apology for a previous statement in which they claimed vaccines weren't available in Jan. 2021 — when President Joe Biden was already vaccinated.
"We previously misstated that vaccines were unavailable in January 2021. We should have said that they were not widely available," the tweet says.
"Vaccines became available shortly before the President came into office. Since then, he’s responsible for fully vaccinating over 200 million people."
In fact, the first vaccines received emergency approval by the FDA on Dec. 12 2021, pursuant to the directives of then-president Donald Trump's "Operation Warp Speed." They were shipped out country-wide the following day.
The retraction comes after various media outlets called out the error. The vaccine was already available to much of the American public before Biden took office on Jan. 20, 2021.
Vice-President Kamala Harris also received the vaccine before taking office. Biden had two first shots before taking his oath, while Harris received her second dose just days after taking office.
The CDC's website reveals that, as of Biden's inauguration, 19 million Americans had already received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 3 million had received two doses.
