The Trump administration slammed Democratic politicians of so-called “sanctuary” cities and states for refusing to work with ICE and accused them of wanting “killers, rapists roaming our streets.”

In a release, the White House said, “President Donald J. Trump is removing illegal immigrant killers, rapists, and drug dealers from our streets and sending them back where they belong — but if politicians in so-called ‘sanctuary’ locales had it their way, these vicious criminals would still be free to roam our streets.”

The statement listed several of the most extreme examples of illegal immigrants recently apprehended by federal authorities in sanctuary cities and states.

ICE arrested a Sudanese national in Saint Paul, Minnesota, who was convicted of rape of a victim under 13, a Mexican national convicted of criminal sexual conduct against a victim under 14, and a Laotian national convicted of child endangerment and criminal sexual conduct against a victim under 13. The White House criticized Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison for warning law enforcement of “liability if they enforce immigration detainers” and for saying protecting communities from violent illegal immigrant criminals is “not our job.”

The administration also called out Mayor Melvin Carter, who said targeting violent illegal immigrant criminals is “threatening our safe spaces” and called it a “rapidly alarming situation.” Additionally, Saint Paul City Council Vice President Hwa Jeong Kim told constituents that the police department “cannot and does not cooperate with ICE.”

The White House noted that in Chicago, Ill., ICE arrested a Mexican national convicted of drunk driving resulting in a death (who had an order of removal from 2006), a Mexican national convicted of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute (who had an order of removal from 2022), and a Mexican national convicted of negligent manslaughter.

Despite the serious charges, Rep. Delia Ramirez decried how “welcoming states and sanctuary cities that defend our neighbors” are a “target.” Rep. Chuy García added that “no one should live in fear” of an “immigration raid.” Rep. Mike Quigley even advised illegal immigrants “to become familiar with their rights.”

In Washington State, the administration praised ICE for arresting a Salvadoran national convicted of sodomy/anal intercourse with a victim under 13 but called out Washington Attorney General Nick Brown, who boasted that “state or local law enforcement” will not be utilized “for immigration enforcement actions.”

In Los Angeles, California, after immigration authorities arrested a Mexican national convicted of rape (who had an order of removal from 1996), Mayor Karen Bass said, “No one should live in fear due to their immigration status.”

Meanwhile, in New York City, New York, immigration authorities arrested a Chinese national convicted of murder but “Squad” leader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told illegal immigrants to “protect” themselves, reminding them “Do not open your door.”

Two years ago, US Border Patrol agents encountered 1,500 illegal immigrants every day in the El Paso sector alone. Now, they’re seeing approximately 80 per day following the Trump administration’s efforts to secure the homeland.
