Geyser pleaded guilty in 2017 to attempted first-degree intentional homicide for stabbing Payton Leutner 19 times.
Geyser was taken into custody on Sunday night at around 10:34 pm, ending the intense search for the convict. The Madison police announced that she had escaped on Sunday morning. “Morgan Geyser was last seen in the area of Kroncke Dr. around 8 p.m. with an adult acquaintance. Her whereabouts are unknown as of Sunday morning," the department wrote on social media.
"A recent image of Geyser, captured on security video from this past month, is attached below. If you see her, please call 911," the police added.
Geyser pleaded guilty in 2017 to attempted first-degree intentional homicide for the stabbing of Payton Leutner. However, she claimed that she was not responsible for the actions due to mental illness. She claimed that she tried to kill Leutner to satisfy the desires of Slender Man, a fictional character. Geyer was 12 when she, as well as Anissa Weier, brought Leutner into a wooded area in 2014, per the New York Post.
The girls were having a sleepover at the time. Geyser then stabbed Leutner 19 times with the encouragement of Weier. The girl miraculously survived the attack. Geyser, after the crime, has been detained at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute for seven years, but was initially sentenced to 40 years in a psychiatric hospital.
She was allowed to appeal for her release every 6 months and was staying at the group home when she was able to escape.
