Two women have been charged with assaulting an off-duty officer at a Missouri gas station in a brutal attack that was caught on camera. Shaniya Lewis and Nayonna Griffin, both 20, have been charged with one count of second-degree assault and one count of resisting or interfering with arrest for a felony each.

The incident took place at a QuikTrip gas station located in St. Louis County at around 2:30 am on Sunday. The incident began with Griffin throwing items at the officer, which caused the officer to approach her, per First Alert 4. Lewis stopped the officer and a struggle ensued, with Lewis throwing him to the ground.

Griffin was seen stomping on the officer’s head while Lewis punched him repeatedly on the ground. Lewis allegedly reached for the officer’s gun during the struggle, but was unable to retrieve it from its holster.

When police arrived and attempted to break Griffin away from the officer, she continued to grab his hair, kicking, flailing, and trying to run while attempting to avoid being handcuffed.

The officer, who is an off-duty Hillsdale Police Department officer working secondary at the gas station, was taken to an area hospital with injuries. An officer with the Hillsdale Police Department told the outlet that the officer was treated for minor injuries and is recovering at home. The officer is expected to return to work in the coming days.

Griffin and Lewis are being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond, with no option for a 10 percent bond.
