1 dead, 2 injured after Memphis crime spree, suspect arrested

Police in Memphis, Tennessee have captured a suspect in connection with a crime spree that left one person dead and two others injured on Sunday.

Courdarion Craft, 20, was apprehended hours after allegedly carrying out the shootings, and has since been hit with a slew of charges.

According to the Memphis Police Department, Craft has been charged with first degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, carjacking, aggravated child abuse, evading arrest-felony, and evading arrest-misdemeanor. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.

The MPD said in a statement that Craft was apprehended on the 5300 block of Haleville Road at 3:43pm "after a brief foot pursuit."

"My heart aches for the victim's families and those affected by these senseless acts of violence," Chief Cerelyn Davis added. "Through the hard work and swift action of Memphis Police Officers, additional incidents were undoubtedly prevented."

It was revealed that Craft was out of jail on $100,000 bond for criminal attempt first-degree murder and criminal attempt especially aggravated robbery at the time of his arrest.

The crime spree began on Sunday morning, with officers arriving at the scene of a reported carjacking on the 3700 block of East Shelby Drive shortly after 10 am. A victim was located on the 3800 block a short time later and pronounced dead as the result of a gunshot wound.

Craft then allegedly fired shots on nearby Pilot Drive and Commerce Circle. In the former incident, nobody was hit, however, in the latter, two females were struck by bullets. Both were rushed to the hospital, and one is currently in critical condition.

A blue Nissan Maxima was allegedly stolen during the aforementioned carjacking, however, Craft was spotted driving a white Dodge Charger, which was also stolen during a second carjacking on South Perkins Road.
