After an early morning shooting near a Speedway gas station in the suburbs of Pittsburgh on Sunday morning, one man is dead and several others are injured, the New York Post reported.

The Speedway station is located on State St. in Clairton, a bedroom community of Pittsburgh. The shooting began around 4 am on Sunday, according to police officers at the scene who spoke to WPXI.

The original call to the police came when residents reported a “disturbance” near the gas station due to multiple people fighting in the street. But the fighting escalated into shooting when an individual with a gun began firing into the crowd.

One of those bullets hit and killed a man who was trying to escape to safety in his vehicle. He reportedly died behind the wheel, losing control of the car, which flipped over on the street in front of the gas station.

Police evacuated the injured men to hospitals in the vicinity of the gas station, where they remain in stable condition. The shooter was arrested at the scene of the crime.

Police responded to the shooting because it constituted an “in-progress emergency” that Pittsburgh police say an incident must be in order to get action from officers. Due to diminishing resources, Pittsburgh police have previously stated that officers will no longer respond to just a threat of violence or crime. Instead, these reports are transferred to an answering machine system.

'The shooter was arrested at the scene of the crime.' Gee, no description of the perp. The usual demographics.
