14 people are facing charges after police discovered an illegal gambling house operating in downtown Toronto, CP24 reports.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving a report of a person carrying a firearm. Upon entering the basement, the illegal gambling house was discovered.

While police discovered a large amount of cash present at the scene, they did not report the discovery of a firearm.

The 14 people present have been charged with illegal gambling and for failing to abide by lockdown measures enforced under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. Residents of Ontario are only supposed to leave their homes for "essential purposes" under the rules being enforced by the Doug Ford government.

All of the people charged are from Toronto or surrounding municipalities such as Mississauga, Oakville, and Whitby.

The 14 people facing charges are expected to appear in court on Mar 25. Police say the investigation is ongoing
