During his first appearance in court, Pugh flipped his middle fingers at the judge, garnering gasps from the gallery.
According to a local CBS News report, law enforcement believe that Khalil Pugh "intentionally crashed" into the Thomasville store and hit pedestrians. On Friday he had received over ten charges in relation to the incident, including felony murder, malice murder, homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault with intent to murder, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Georgia State Patrol Sgt. 1st Class John Vanlandingham told the publication that the teenage suspect sped through the Walmart parking lot in a gray Toyota Camry before slamming through the Home & Pharmacy entrance of the store, killing 66-year-old Kenneth Kennedy and injuring an unspecified amount of others. The officer said that Kennedy was exiting the store when he was struck.
Pugh allegedly tried to flee the crash scene but was apprehended by bystanders, police said. Officials also noted that there was another passenger in the car, who was also brought in for questioning. It is currently unclear if the other individual will face charges or is still in police custody.
During his first appearance in court, Pugh flipped his middle fingers at the judge, garnering gasps from the gallery. As the outlet reported, one person in the courtroom told him to "get it together."
An officer chimed in, "That's what you call having no remorse."
Pugh ended up being taken out of the courtroom by bailiffs.
As the Thomasville Police Department said, Pugh "was involved in a series of entering autos at a separate location just prior to traveling to Wal-Mart." Besides the murder charges, he was also hit with "Entering Automobile" meaning entering a vehicle with the purpose to steal them.
In addition, he was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and second degree criminal damage to property in relation to the Wednesday incident.
