First-degree murder charges for Toronto 18-year-old after shooting death of 20-year-old

A 18-year-old is in custody after a 20-year-old man was shot and killed in Toronto’s Leaside neighbourhood last June.

A 18-year-old is in custody after a 20-year-old man was shot and killed in Toronto’s Leaside neighbourhood last June.

Toronto police say that a group of people were sitting in a parked vehicle around 7:30 pm in the Vanderhoof Avenue and Research Road area on June 9 when suspected came by and started shooting at the car.

According to CP24, two people were rushed to hospital in critical condition, after police found them in the car with gunshot wounds. One later died in hospital, and police identified him as 20-year-old Maaz Jogiyat of Toronto.

Police confirmed Thursday that a man had been arrested in connection to the shooting that took place three months ago. The arrested suspect is 18-year-old Toronto resident Maviya Tahir, who has now been charged with first-degree murder He will appear before a judge at the College Park courthouse today.
