On Monday, the US military retaliated with airstrikes in Iraq after three US soldiers were wounded, including one critically injured, in a drone strike by Iran-backed terrorists on an American base.

US Central Command wrote in a statement that the strikes killed “a number of Kataib Hezbollah militants” and destroyed multiple facilities used by the terrorists.

Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, head of US Central Command, added, “These strikes are intended to hold accountable those elements directly responsible for attacks on coalition forces in Iraq and Syria and degrade their ability to continue attacks. We will always protect our forces.”

Earlier in the day, a drone strike from the terrorist group attacked a US base in Erbil, Iraq, injuring three US soldiers.

The identity of the wounded US service members has not been released.

National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement from the White House, “President Biden was immediately briefed on the attack this morning, and he ordered the Department of Defense to prepare response options against those responsible. Those options were then presented to the President during a call this afternoon with Secretary of Defense Austin and members of the President’s national security team. During that call, the President directed strikes against three locations utilized by Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups focused specifically on unmanned aerial drone activities.”

Watson continued, “The President places no higher priority than the protection of American personnel serving in harm’s way. The United States will act at a time and in a manner of our choosing should these attacks continue.”

The US military in The Middle East has been attacked regularly by Iranian-backed terrorist groups since Hamas terrorists invaded Israel on October 7.

Also on Monday, Iran's state media acknowledged that an Israeli airstrike near Damascus, Syria killed Sayyed Razi Mousavi, an Iranian senior adviser in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who coordinated the military alliance between Iran and Syria.

Mousavi used to work with Qassem Soleimani, the head of the IRGC's Quds Force, who was killed in a US drone attack in Iraq in 2020. Iran vowed retaliation for the attack.
