The shootings were scattered across multiple neighborhoods.
Chicago experienced another violent Fourth of July weekend, with 6 people killed and at least 50 people shot between July 3 and July 6.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the shootings were scattered across multiple neighborhoods. Among the incidents was a fatal shooting on the North Side early Saturday morning, where a 46-year-old man was shot in the back while sitting inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the shooter fled, and one person of interest is currently in custody.
Later that same morning, a 30-year-old man was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head on the West Side. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and no arrests have been made as detectives continue to investigate.
Earlier, four men were wounded in a mass shooting near the Cook County Courthouse. Police received reports of walk-in gunshot victims at Mount Sinai Hospital around 1:45 am. The victims had been sitting in a parked vehicle when a dark SUV approached, and gunfire erupted from inside. Three victims, ages 32, 26, and 25, were listed in critical condition after being shot in the body. A fourth man, age 33, was shot in the leg and was in fair condition. No suspects are in custody.
Another fatal incident occurred Friday night in West Englewood, where a 36-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and later pronounced dead. Police have made no arrests.
These acts of violence come on the heels of a deadly drive-by shooting earlier this week outside a Chicago restaurant, which left four people dead and 14 others injured.
City officials and law enforcement continue to face pressure to address the persistent gun violence that plagues Chicago neighborhoods. Last year, over 100 people were shot, with at least 19 deaths over the holiday weekend.
