Following a segment on Sunday about "misinformation"on social media, it was revealed that CBS’ “60 Minutes” failed to disclose that a researcher the show prominently featured received funding and collaborated with the Biden administration.

According to the Daily Caller, the outlet omitted that University of Washington researcher Kate Starbird, who was featured on the Sunday show about “misinformation” led a project that Biden’s National Science Foundation (NSF) granted $2.25 million in 2021.

The NSF funded “...‘rapid response’ methods for studying and communicating about disinformation at a sophistication and pace on par with the dynamic and interdisciplinary nature of the challenge,” according to a press release announcing the grant.

60 Minutes also failed to mention that the UW professor also served on an advisory committee for the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

According to the Daily Caller, CISA’s Protecting Critical Infrastructure from Misinformation and Disinformation subcommittee, where Starbird served, published recommendations in June 2022 discussing how to mitigate information risks to “critical functions” such as public health, and elections.

The subcommittee recommended that CISA identify “informational threats” and work with “governmental” and “non-governmental” entities to debunk mis- and disinformation and worked with left-wing research and pro-censorship groups to address alleged misinformation.

Starbird said during the interview on 60 Minutes, “It’s interesting that the people that pushed voter fraud lies are some of the same people that are trying to discredit researchers that are trying to understand the problem.”

According to Federal Election Commission data, Starbird also donated to Biden’s 2020 campaign and to the Biden Victory Fund.
