"What sensible forward thinking cutting edge leading nation is having a DEBATE on whether or not there should be VOTER ID?!?!!!! Like?!?!? They’re actually fighting NOT to have ppl present ID while voting for your leaders!!!!! Do you get it?!?!!!! Do you get it now?!?!!!" Minaj posted.
Harry Enten of CNN pulled up statistics from one of the latest Pew Research polls that examined Americans' feelings about voter ID laws and showed that Americans generally agree with Minaj.
"83 percent in the last year of Americans agree with Nicki Minaj. They favor photo ID to be able to vote," Enten said, citing polling from Pew. Historical figures showed that for the last several years, over 75 percent of the American population has been in favor of voter ID laws. The figures by party are 71 percent of Democrats being in favor of voter ID laws and 95 percent of the GOP supporting it.
Despite this, many Democrat politicians have compared voter ID laws, such as the SAVE Act, to something akin to Jim Crow laws. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) posted on X, "The SAVE Act is nothing more than Jim Crow 2.0. It would disenfranchise millions of Americans. Every single Senate Democrat will vote against any bill that contains it. Speaker Johnson should tell SAVE Act Republicans to stand down or else this shutdown will be on them."
The SAVE Act would merely require that voters prove citizenship in order to vote. In order to vote in elections, federal law requires a person to be a US citizen. Schumer has previously said of voter ID laws in general, "By blocking action on voting rights, Senate Republicans are saying they are perfectly fine with laws that restrict how younger, poorer, and non-white Americans typically vote. These laws are Jim Crow 2.0. The Senate will act to support our democracy and protect voting rights."

Other Democrats have made similar statements. Meanwhile, ID is often needed to get cold medicine at the supermarket and to fly on a plane.
