A 9-month-old baby was killed in California after being shot while his mother was pushing him in a stroller.

WHNS- TV reported that 9-month-old Darius King Grigsby was killed on Wednesday while his mother pushed him down the street in a stroller in Merced, California. A car passed by and opened fire, striking the infant.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 12:36 pm and located the mother and child inside a McDonald’s and discovered the boy had suffered a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Merced Police Department posted on Facebook, "Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. It was determined that the shooting took place in the 1200 block of Q Street. Grigsby was being pushed in a stroller by his mother, who was walking down the street with her boyfriend. A vehicle drove by and one of the occupants opened fire, striking Grigsby."

According to police, a total of three shots were fired from the car and no suspects have been identified yet in the ongoing investigation.

Merced Police Lt. Joseph Perez told the Fresno Bee, "This happened at a busy time of day,” and instructed anyone who saw the shooting to contact the authorities.
