ABC will air a special dedicated to Charlie Kirk on Friday evening.
Instead of airing Jimmy Kimmel on Friday after his show was suspended on Wednesday, ABC will air a special dedicated to Charlie Kirk on Friday evening. The suspension of Kimmel's show come after he made comments falsely suggesting that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with murdering Charlie Kirk, was "MAGA."
Kimmel has stated on his show earlier this week, "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” The statement, along with many other left-wing outlets and pundits, suggested that the shooter was a Trump supporter when in reality, suspect Tyler Robinson was deeply involved with left-wing ideology and was romantically involved with his roommate, Lance Twiggs, a man who was also transitioning to identify as a woman.
On Wednesday, Sinclair, the largest ABC affiliate conglomerate, said in a statement, "As discussed with ABC earlier today, Sinclair decided to indefinitely preempt 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' beginning tonight. Following these discussions, ABC has suspended production of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'"
"Sinclair's ABC stations will air a special in remembrance of Charlie Kirk this Friday, during Jimmy Kimmel Live's timeslot. The special will also air across all Sinclair stations this weekend. In addition, Sinclair is offering the special to all ABC affiliates across the country," Sinclair added.
Vice Chairman of Sinclair commented, “Mr. Kimmel’s remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country. We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities. We appreciate FCC Chairman Carr’s remarks today and this incident highlights the critical need for the FCC to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks.”
The statement also added that ABC would be air the special in remembrance of Kirk across stations over the weekend and encourages Kimmel to apologize as well as make a personal donation to Kirk’s family as well as Turning Point USA.
