Baldwin has entered a not guilty plea.
Alec Baldwin will face a New Mexico jury in July when he stands trial in the 2021 shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Jury selection will begin on July 9, with the trial set to begin on July 10, going through July 19.
The Hollywood actor faces charges of involuntary manslaughter. Baldwin has entered a not guilty plea, KOAT reports. That not guilty plea was entered the day before he was scheduled to be arraigned on charged. He was indicted by a grand jury and was the one who pulled the trigger in Hutchins' shooting.
The weapon in the incident was a prop gun used by Baldwin on set, who was both star and producer of the film. He aimed the gun at the camera and fired, but a live round was in the chamber. This was the cause of Hutchins' death. Director Joel Souza was wounded in the shooting as well.
Baldwin has said that while he pulled back the hammer, he did not pull the trigger. Testifying in the trial of armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, firearms expert Bryce Ziegler said that the gun used would not have been fired unless the trigger was pulled. Gutierrez-Reed also pleaded not guilty to two counts of manslaughter and tampering with evidence.
Baldwin could face up to 18 months in prison if he is convicted in the July trial. FBI analysis concluded that Baldwin pulled the trigger of the gun.
