Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Monday that effective immediately, all officers in the field in Minneapolis will be fitted with bodycameras.

Noem said that after speaking with border czar Tom Homan, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, and US Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott, "Effective immediately we are deploying body cameras to every officer in the field in Minneapolis. As funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide. We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country."

This comes after two high-profile shootings in Minneapolis that have led to unrest. In early January, anti-ICE agitator Renee Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent after she rammed her car into the agent. Later in the month, Border Patrol agents fatally shot Alex Pretti after resisting arrest.

White House advisor Stephen Miller has raised questions regarding the Pretti shooting, saying that CBP agents at the scene "may not have been following" proper protocols. Miller said that the White House “provided clear guidance to DHS that the extra personnel that had been sent to Minnesota for force protection should be used for conducting fugitive operations to create a physical barrier between the arrest teams and the disruptors. We are evaluating why the CBP team may not have been following that protocol."

Anti-ICE agitators have caused havoc in Minneapolis in the wake of the shootings, including setting up barricades in the streets of the city to check license plates for vehicles listed in a database as being associated with ICE, which have since been pulled apart by authorities, as well as antagonizing hotels where ICE agents are alleged to have been staying.
