Following Monday’s FBI raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, former Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo blasted the action, calling on the Department of Justice to explain the reasoning behind the raid.

Cuomo, a life-long Democrat, wrote on Tuesday morning: "DOJ must immediately explain the reason for its raid & it must be more than a search for inconsequential archives or it will be viewed as a political tactic and undermine any future credible investigation & legitimacy of January 6 investigations."

Monday’s raid at the residence was reportedly centered around 15 boxes of documents that officials at the National Archives requested that Trump returned.

The New York Times reported that "Mr. Trump delayed returning 15 boxes of material requested by officials with the National Archives for many months, only doing so when there became a threat of action being taken to retrieve them."

Cuomo joins a growing crowd of public figures that have expressed disgust over the action.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis blasted the Biden "regime," calling it a "Banana Republic."

DeSantis posted on Twitter, "The raid of [Mar-a-Lago] is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves. Now the Regime is getting another 87k IRS agents to wield against its adversaries? Banana Republic."

Attorney Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax that the Biden administration has "used the weaponization of the justice system against its political enemies."

"It’s arrested people, denied them bail, put them in handcuffs, used all kinds of techniques that are not usually applied to American citizens," he added, noting that a "raid is supposed to be a last resort."

"I suspect it has to do with some investigations leading toward Donald Trump and some of his associates," he continued. "Again, the law is clear: You don’t engage in a raid unless you’ve exhausted all of the other remedies unless you believe that the person you raided will destroy the evidence. Raids are not the first recourse in America; they’re the last recourse."

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to "preserve your documents and clear your calendar" to make space for an "immediate oversight" of the department if Republicans take back the House in November.

McCarthy posted the statement to Twitter Monday night following the raid which said, "I’ve seen enough. The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization. When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned."

He added, "Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar."

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon told Fox News that "the FBI right now is the Gestapo."

"We're at war," Bannon said. "We're at a political and ideological war, and they've obviously weaponized the Justice Department."

"This had to go up the chain of command through Merrick Garland," Bannon added. "This is about pure power politics."

"They're absolutely petrified that Trump is going to announce in the next couple of weeks and win the Republican nomination, win the White House," he explained.
