AOC demands taxpayer dollars to fix NYC illegal alien problem

"Those federal resources should come to New York City, and those federal dollars should come to places that want to take care of people, and we need that financial support," New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said.

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that the Biden administration needs to give New York City more taxpayer money for taking care of illegal immigrants and that the US should accept every single border crosser and immediately make them citizens at a town hall meeting in the Bronx on Wednesday night.

According to the New York Post, AOC said, "those federal resources should come to New York City, and those federal dollars should come to places that want to take care of people, and we need that financial support.”

Biden's border crisis has seen a record-high number of illegal immigrants pouring into the United States, with more than two million encounters occurring across the 2022 fiscal year. As border crossers pour into the US it has sparked a humanitarian crisis that has led to historic drug and human trafficking

"If we don’t want people here illegally then we should document them," AOC shouted at a retired firefighter who asked, "We have foreign nationals by the millions pouring in illegally, flooding our country. You are a member of Congress. Writing our immigration laws… What will you do with the immigration law to secure the southern border?"

The firefighter also noted that 95 percent of the illegal aliens are economic migrants, which are those heading into the US for better paying jobs than their native country.

"It’s legal to seek asylum at the United States border. It’s legal. It’s legal. It’s legal to claim asylum," AOC said in response.

"When we talk about undocumented people, my priority is about opening legal pathways to citizenship. And making sure they are open," she said.

In April, Texas Governor Greg Abbott contemplated on a way to manage and relocate the masses of migrants flooding into Texas. He promised to bus border crossers to blue states whose leadership supported open borders. By October, 19,000 illegal immigrants had arrived in NYC, bussed not only by Abbott, but from states like Arizona and by the Biden administration.

As these illegal immigrants have been bussed to NYC, Mayor Eric Adams has had to declare a state of emergency due to leadership's inability to house and take care of the individuals.

AOC said she is working with Adams on more grant money from the Office of Housing and Urban Development.

"So they are working with that application on emergency housing services. We have a housing crisis in this city. There are many ways we need to respond to it," AOC said.

"We are in close communication with the mayor’s office and getting the resources necessary.  If some states don’t want to do their job on that, that’s fine," she added.

In mid-September, the congresswoman took to Twitter to say Texas Governor Greg Abbot should step down after he successfully bussed another 100 illegal immigrants from Texas to Washington, DC.

AOC said America was to blame for the crisis. "The US has contributed historically to regime change in Latin America," adding that it "has been multi-decade contributing factors to why people happen to be on our southern border right now."

"We don’t want these crises but we need to accept responsibility for our contribution to them," she said.
