“He’s not afraid to embody and pass on these values of security and this idea that you can, you can let your girl shine."
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has offered praise to Doug Emhoff for being, in her view, an ideal representation of masculinity. She made the remarks onstage during a campaign event in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday. The campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris has continually presented Emhoff as something of a "wife guy," as Jen Psaki once said during an interview with him.
“He’s not afraid to embody and pass on these values of security and this idea that you can, you can let your girl shine," Ocasio-Cortez told students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, per the Daily Mail. "And he embodies that really well. We should all be really, really proud of him."
The New York representative lauded Emhoff's temperament as a version of masculinity a little less than a week following the report of an ex-girlfriend of Emhoff's coming forward to comfirm that Emhoff slapped her in 2012 at the Cannes film festival. The girlfriend, who only identified herself as "Jane," said that she was slapped by the now-Second Gentleman when he thought she got too flirty with a valet.
Ocasio-Cortez said that there were many "poor examples" of "masculinity and men." She added that "Doug really is the contrast—the second gentleman—is a real contrast to that."
"He's able to stand beside the vice president's side and lift her up instead of put her down. And he knows that by lifting of women, he's also lifting up his fellow men around him. He's not afraid to be a dad of a powerful daughter and a great son," Ocasio-Cortez added.
Ocasio-Cortez has also recently commented that for men, masculinity means "protecting your family" and part of that, she claimed, is "voting for Kamala Harris and making sure that women’s rights and our bodies are protected." She is also pro-abortion.
Emhoff, aside from being accused of slapping his ex-girlfriend, had an affair with his children's nanny during his first marriage, leading to the nanny getting pregnant. Others from his past work have accused him of being a sexist "a**hole" and would retaliate against women in his office who did not reciprocate his flirting at times.
