The police now have arrest warrants for those who fatally beat a devoted father in Maryland who was protecting his child from bullies. The suspects could be arrested and charged later this week.

The victim, Christopher Wright, 43, suffered fatal brain injury last week after two adults and three teenagers showed up to Wright’s home in Brooklyn Park to confront his 14-year-old son, Trenton. A video of the incident surfaced online, showing Wright attempting to fend off the thugs before being thrown to the ground and beaten.

Wright’s family has expressed concerns about the lack of of arrests in the case so far, given that this was not a random incident. Authorities may be stalling because Wright engaged physically with the suspects as well, the New York Post reports, per a source familiar with the investigation.

The incident preceeding the fight saw an altercation between Wright's son, a high school student, and another student who allegedly claimed to steal $30 from the son's girlfriend. Trouble ensued when apparently Wright's son attempted to regain the $30. The son was challeged to a fight, and those who sought to fight him went to the Wright home to do so. Wright said his son, who had been in trouble for fighting before, would not be fighting, and the aggressors demanded that Wright fight instead, per reports.

Wright’s fiancee, Tracy Karopchinsky, said that her son now feels responsible for the dispute that led to Wright’s horrific death.

A neighbor said Wright, a stay-at-home dad, was a caring “Mr Mom” who carefully looked after the three boys while his fiancee worked multiple jobs. The neighbor also mentioned that she heard one of the younger brothers scream “Daddy!” after the attacks quickly left the scene, with Wright laying on the ground.

“That little kid’s scream is a scream that you’ll never forget,” the neighbor said. “It was ear-piercing, his scream was. It was awful.”

Leading up to the attack, Wright had posted a happy Facebook message, expressing joy about his family’s new home. “I Love Cooking In The Kitchen With The Whole Family Sitting At The Dining Room Table Having Dinner Together Is Priceless!!”

The last social media post he made was on May 5, where he posted: “No matter how good or bad your life is, wake up each day and be thankful you still have one.”
