A poll conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post ahead of the Iowa caucuses has found that Joe Biden has the lowest approval rating of any president in the past 15 years, at just 33 percent.

Additionally, only 33 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the president, which is less than even his predecessor, Donald Trump, who managed to eek out 35 percent.

According to the poll, only 11 percent of Americans strongly approve of Biden's job in office, compared to 41 percent who strongly disapprove. The 33 percent approval figure includes those who say they "somewhat" approve.

In April 2021, four months after Biden took the oath of office, his approval rating was 52 percent. Since then, it has been on a downward trend, falling to 37 percent in 2022, 36 percent in 2023, and now 33 percent in 2024.

On particular issues, Biden's approval rating is even lower. When asked whether they think he has done a good job handling the crisis at the southern border, only 18 percent said yes, and only 31 percent said the same about the economy. Biden continues to attest that there is no crisis.

Aside from policy choices, voters appear to see various shortcomings with Biden himself. Over half of respondents said the statement "He is honest and trustworthy" does not apply to the president, while 28 percent said the same when asked whether he "has the mental sharpness it takes to serve effectively as president" and "is in good enough physical health to serve effectively as president."

Just 57 percent of Democrats were satisfied with Biden as their nominee, compared to 72 percent of Republicans who said the same of Trump.

The poll was conducted in English and Spanish among 2,228 adult Americans between January 4 and 8. Twenty-five percent of respondents were Republicans, 25 percent were Democrats, and 41 percent were independents. The rest were unaffiliated.
