It has been revealed that John Kerry's office is costing American taxpayers an estimated $4.3 million per year, with many of his aides taking home six-figure salaries.
The former secretary of state has served as the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate for the Biden administration since 2021.
According to records provided to the Boston Herald by the State Department via a Freedom of Information Act request, Kerry's office employs 27 people, all but one of whom receive compensation of over $100,000 per year. None of the employees are named in the records.
While those who serve as policy analysts and senior policy advisors have their titles listed, the titles of many of the employees bringing home the highest salaries are also redacted.
When pressed by the Herald as to why the decision was made to leave out so many details, the State Department said it "considered the foreseeable harm standard," and concluded that omission was warranted.
James Rosenbaum, who serves as branch chief of Statutory Compliance for the State Department, claimed that listing the names for all to see "would constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of an individual's personal privacy."
Nonetheless, the Herald has vowed to get to the bottom of things, and has reached out to the State Department again in hopes of uncovering the hidden information.
During his time as Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Kerry has flown all over the globe to preach about the need for green energy and a radical transformation of the food industry in order to meet "net zero" emissions goals by the 2030 target.
Kerry has taken heat for taking private jets to events that are intended to help preach the message of combatting climate change. He responded to criticisms of his choice to take a personal aircraft in 2021 by saying such means of transportation are "the only choice for somebody like me who is traveling the world to win this battle."
Kerry has drawn scrutiny from the House Oversight Committee, which recently launched an investigation into him and the State Department following evidence that they "sought and received feedback from leftist environmental groups on the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) and enabled those groups to influence U.S. foreign policy."
