United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken denied being behind the bombshell letter that orchestrated 50 US intelligence officials to falsely claim that the New York Post's reporting on Hunter Biden's laptop was "Russian disinformation."
Blinken denied the involvement while appearing on Fox News' Special Report on Wednesday during a sit-down interview with host Benjamin Hall.
Speaking on Hunter Biden's laptop and how former CIA chief Mike Morell testified under oath that the Biden campaign, along with Secretary Blinken, asked Morell to orchestrate the damning letter claiming the infamous laptop to be "Russian disinformation," the Fox News host asked Blinken, "Can you explain what your role was in that and if you incentivized it?"
Blinken denied being behind the letter and said, "It wasn't my idea. I didn't ask for it. I didn't solicit it and I think the testimony that the former deputy director, the CIA's Mike Morel, put forward confirms that."
"One of the great benefits of this job is that I don't do politics and don't engage in it," Blinken added.
On April 20, former CIA chief Mike Morell testified under oath before the House Judiciary Committee that Secretary Blinken, who was a senior Biden campaign official at the time, reached out to him after the New York Post published articles detailing information found on the laptop concerning shady foreign business dealings.
Morell testified before the committee that he organized the letter at the prompting of the Biden administration to "help Vice President Biden" for the reason that he "wanted him to win the election." Morell then influenced other intelligence officials to sign the letter asserting the false claims to further Biden's Presidential campaign.
Morell said that it wasn't until he was contacted by Blinken that he determined to take action to organize the letter or to exonerate Biden from the allegations stemming from his son's laptop. Morell said that his conversation with Blinken "triggered... that intent."
Politico then released the letter which claimed that the New York Post's bombshell reporting was "Russian disinfo" according to "dozens of former officials." The letter stated that the Post's reporting had "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation."
The Biden campaign used the letter as leverage to discredit and censor the Post's factual reporting in order to help Biden win the 2020 presidential election.
In October 2020, John Ratcliffe, Director of National Intelligence, stated that the laptop was decidedly "not part of a Russian disinformation campaign."
