Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said her office will attempt to prevent property owners from leasing parking spaces to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This comes after a report revealed that ICE has been planning to lease 250 parking spaces in the self-declared sanctuary city, which has a history of trying to block ICE from carrying out its lawful duties.

Speaking to WCVB Channel 5 "On the Record" hosts, Mayor Wu, a Democrat, said in a recent interview that her office would file Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to determine where ICE plans to lease parking spaces. The city would then hunt down the property owners to ensure they do not assist ICE, according to Wu.

"We, as a city, will be filing another FOIA request for any responses that have come in for the Boston area so that we know what information they may be sifting through," said Mayor Wu.

"We strongly oppose any expansion of their efforts here," she continued, asserting that her office would "be reaching out to property owners to try to make sure that they're not adding to a surge of unlawful and dangerous activity."

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responded to Mayor Wu's comments, describing the city's actions as "unhinged."

"She knows she has NO authority to block us from using private property," DHS wrote on X. "So she's hunting down private property owners and threatening them for working with ICE — because she's rather intimidate law-abiding Bostonians than get criminal illegal aliens OFF the street."

Boston, led by Mayor Wu, has frequently attempted to impede immigration enforcement measures since President Trump began his second term and ordered mass deportations. The city's sanctuary statute prohibits local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. The Trump administration has repeatedly criticized Boston for releasing criminal illegal aliens who later reoffended.
