The University of Virginia Police Department issued an emergency alert Monday afternoon warning of a potential active attacker on campus. The UVA Police Division now say they are investigating as there are no signs of an active shooter.
The alert, posted at 3:05 pm, stated that an “ACTIVE ATTACKER with a gun” had been reported near Shannon Library, 160 McCormick Road. Police urged anyone on or near campus to “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” — the standard emergency protocol for an active shooter situation.
Students and staff were advised to shelter in place immediately while law enforcement responded to the area.
"UVA Emergency Alert: 3:34 PM. Police are currently at Shannon Library continuing to investigating. At this time there is no evidence of an Attacker," the UVA Police Division posted on X.
"UVA Emergency Alert: 3:41 PM. Update - Police are continuing to investigate at Shannon Library. At this time there is no evidence of an Active Attacker. Continue to RUN-HIDE-FIGHT."
"UVA Emergency Alert: 3:58 PM. Update - Police are continuing to investigate at Shannon Library. At this time there is no evidence that an attack has occurred. Continue to follow RUN-HIDE-FIGHT protocol until All Clear is issued."
