In a post on X, Grassley said, “This document shows the Biden FBI spied on 8 of my Republican Senate colleagues during its Arctic Frost investigation into ‘election conspiracy.’ Arctic Frost later became Jack Smith’s elector case against Trump. BIDEN FBI WEAPONIZATION = WORSE THAN WATERGATE.”
The FBI document, dated September 27, 2023, lists agents conducting “preliminary toll analysis” on the phone records of GOP senators Mike Kelly, Lindsey Graham, Bill Hagerty, Josh Hawley, Dan Sullivan, Tommy Tuberville, Ron Johnson, Cynthia Lummis, and Marsha Blackburn.
The document, titled “CAST Assistance,” references “ARCTIC FROST – Election Law Matters – Sensitive Investigative Matter.” Grassley said the records were obtained as part of his ongoing inquiry into FBI politicization and surveillance abuses under the Biden administration.
The Iowa senator first revealed the existence of Arctic Frost during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on September 25, where he told FBI Director Kash Patel that whistleblowers had come forward with allegations that the operation had expanded far beyond its original election scope.
“These new records show that Arctic Frost was much broader than just an electoral matter,” Grassley said. “The case was expanded to Republican organizations. Some examples of the groups the Wray FBI sought to place under political investigation included the Republican National Committee, Republican Attorneys General Association, and Trump political groups.”
Grassley said a total of 92 Republican groups and individuals were placed under investigative scrutiny, including Turning Point USA, founded by the late Charlie Kirk.
“In other words,” Grassley said, “Arctic Frost wasn’t just a case to politically investigate Trump. It was the vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and DOJ prosecutors could achieve their partisan ends and improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus.”
