The Republican Conference in the House will hold a candidate forum at 6:30 pm on Monday.
Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida is reportedly throwing his name in the hat for House Speaker.
A spokesperson confirmed his intentions to The Hill, with Donalds being one of many names that have emerged since Jim Jordan was removed in a secret ballot vote as the party’s Speaker nominee on Friday afternoon.
The Republican Conference in the House will hold a candidate forum at 6:30 pm on Monday, and will vote of a new Speaker-designate on Tuesday morning, with prospective candidates needing to submit their names by noon on Sunday.
Jordan was removed as the Speaker-designate in a closed-door vote that saw 112 party members voting against him, and 89 for.
This comes after three votes in the House, which resulted in over 20 people voting against Jordan each time, leaving him short of taking the gavel.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
