Armstrong has agreed to plead guilty in the case and will do so in the coming weeks.
According to a press release from the Department of Justice, "Brenda Lee Brown Armstrong, of Marina del Rey, California, 64, also known as 'Anika,' is charged with one felony count of paying another person to register to vote, a federal charge that carries a statutory maximum penalty of five years in federal prison."
Armstrong has agreed to plead guilty in the case and will do so in the coming weeks. She is due in court on Monday at the US District Court in Santa Ana.
O'Keefe posted to social media after the announcement by the DOJ: "Election Fraudster, Brenda Brown faces up to 5 YEARS in prison after O'Keefe Expose per the Justice Department."
Footage from OMG caught a woman handing out money to the homeless population on Skid Row in exchange for them registering to vote.
Those on the street were getting paid between $2 and $3 to register to vote, according to the footage. The undercover film, posted by O'Keefe, showed 28 instances of people offering the homeless money as well as drugs to bribe them to vote.
"Brenda Lee Brown Armstrong has agreed to a plea deal, admitting she paid homeless people in Los Angeles to register to vote in Federal elections to support her paid signature gathering business," Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the DOJ Harmeet Dhillon said.
The investigation published earlier in March also grabbed the attention of Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, who said, “This alleged activity is a felony in California. Anyone caught engaging in this activity should be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
During the course of the video some petitioners also told those registering to vote that they could use fake addresses such as "Pinocchio Lane." When one person was not familiar with what the forms were for, one of the people handing out the money said, “We gon’ give you $2.”
