Chinese hackers have reportedly targeted the phones of former President Donald Trump as well as Ohio Senator JD Vance as they have been campaigning for Election Day. According to the New York Times, the hackers are believed to have gotten deep into American communications data and targeted information from the phones of Trump and Vance.

According to the Times, people familiar with the matter told reporters about the Chinese hackers on Friday and investigators are working to determine what information they were able to pick up from the phones, if any.

The Trump campaign was made aware of the hackers this week. Information on the phones of Trump and Vance may have data that could potentially put the national security of the United States at risk, as the hacker may be able to obtain contacts, phone calls, and text messages sent and received from Trump as well as Vance

A number of people’s phones that were both inside and outside the government were targeted through the infiltration of phone systems with Verizon, per the report. This comes as another adversarial nation to America, Iran, has also hacked info devices from the Trump campaign.

Prior to the hackers from China targeting the phones of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Iran hacked into the campaign and then tried to deal that information out to various news outlets. Ultimately a dossier on Vance was released by leftist blogger Ken Klippenstein. The dossier doxed Vance’s home address as well as other personal information.

This all comes in light of two assassination attempts on the former president. Iran has also been vying to take out Trump as well as several members of his former staff for revenge over the strike the killed terrorist leader Qassem Soleimani
