FBI Director Kash Patel announce Thursday that federal investigators have uncovered extensive evidence of planning in the Dallas ICE facility shooting.

Patel said the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, had searched for “Charlie Kirk Shot Video” and ballistics information in the days leading up to the attack. Agents also discovered he had downloaded a document titled Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management, which listed DHS facilities.

Between August 19 and 24, Jahn allegedly searched apps tracking the presence of ICE agents. One handwritten note recovered at the scene read: “Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?’”

According to Patel, the FBI’s Dallas field office and FBI headquarters have been working “24/7” to seize devices, analyze data, and process writings taken from Jahn’s residence and belongings. “Further accumulated evidence to this point indicates a high degree of pre-attack planning,” Patel said.

The shooting took place Wednesday morning at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas. Police said the suspect was positioned on a nearby rooftop with a rifle when shots were fired.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem issued a statement following the shooting, accusing Democratic politicians of using “dangerous and dehumanizing” language against ICE officers. “Our prayers are with the families of those killed and our ICE law enforcement,” Noem said.

“This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE. For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric before someone was killed. Comparing ICE day-in and day-out to the Nazi Gestapo, the Secret Police, and slave patrols has consequences.”

Noem added that the administration will continue to back ICE officers “who are simply enforcing the law,” warning that violent attacks on immigration enforcement must not be normalized.

DHS has reported a more than 1,000 percent increase in attacks on ICE law enforcement since President Trump re-entered the White House in January and began large-scale nationwide deportation operations.
