BREAKING: Dems vote with GOP to condemn Kamala Harris for border failure

Six Democrats voted with the House GOP in a resolution to condemn the border policies of Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday. The vote total was 220-196.  

The six Democrats who voted in favor of HR 1371 were Reps. Mary Peltola, Jared Golden, Marie Perez, Yadira Caraveo, Don Davis, and Henry Cuellar. Rep. Golden (D-ME) and others in the group come from swing districts in their various states. 

The resolution had been brought forward by House GOP Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY). 

“Today my resolution condemning Kamala Harris for her role as Joe Biden’s open border czar passed the House. Let me be clear: Harris and every elected Democrat owns this historic border crisis that has turned every community into a border community. It is time that we return to President Donald Trump’s border security policies that put the safety of American citizens first,” Congresswoman Stefanik said of the resolution passing. 

"Border Patrol the disastrous consequences of Kamala Harris’ failed Far Left open border agenda which caused a historic surge in illegal crossings like we have never seen at our Northern Border before including individuals on the terrorist watchlist. Kamala Harris didn’t just create a national security crisis, but a humanitarian crisis that has endangered the lives of millions," Stefanik added. 

She took to the House floor leading up to the vote on the resolution to slam Harris as the "open border czar" and added that the VP has "failed to secure our borders."

After President Joe Biden appointed Harris to help mitigate the “root causes” of illegal immigration in 2021, she was branded as the administration’s “border czar.” Biden said of the appointment of Harris in March 2021, "I’ve asked her, the VP, today — because she’s the most qualified person to do it — to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border."

Mainstream media outlets have claimed that Harris shouldn’t have been labeled as "border czar," with some even backtracking on their own reporting. 

After Axios reported that Harris was not appointed the “border czar,” this week, the outlet ended up adding an editor’s note at the bottom of the recent article saying, “This article has been updated and clarified to note that Axios was among the news outlets that incorrectly labeled Harris a ‘border czar’ in 2021.” 

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer told Fox News, "The mainstream media can try to rewrite history all they want, but the American people know the truth and our House Republican majority will remind them. Kamala Harris is Biden's border czar, and the unprecedented invasion at our borders is hers to own."
