On Wednesday, in front of the House Judiciary Committee FBI Director Christopher Wray faced questions regarding the agency's behavior towards President Joe Biden and his family. Matt Gaetz confronted Wray, suggesting that the FBI was protecting the Bidens.

Director Wray angrily denied this allegation.

During the hearing, Gaetz referred to a WhatsApp message allegedly sent by Hunter Biden to CEFC China Energy executive Henry Zhao in 2017. The message referred to Joe Biden in an attempt to pressure Zhao into making a financial payment. Gaetz read part of the message aloud:

“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”

Gaetz suggested it resembled a shakedown and asked Wray for his thoughts. However, Wray declined to comment on the specifics of the message.

Gaetz persisted, questioning Wray's lack of curiosity and implying that the FBI may be protecting the Bidens.

Wray, visibly offended by the insinuation, firmly denied the claim, saying "Absolutely not. The FBI has no interest in protecting anyone politically."

Gaetz also pointed to the continued political persecution of Donald Trump. "Over ONE MILLION FISA queries were conducted ILLEGALLY under FBI Director Wray’s watch. No one has been held responsible or accountable. President Trump was handed a 37-count indictment over a paperwork dispute. TWO-TIER INJUSTICE SYSTEM!" Gaetz tweeted, sharing more dramatic footage of the epic grilling of Wray.

The revelation of the 2017 WhatsApp message came from IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, who served as an IRS supervisory agent during the investigation into Hunter Biden's tax affairs. In his testimony before Congress, Shapley alleged various anomalies, decisions, and misconduct by the Department of Justice (DOJ) during the investigation, which consistently seemed to favor the Bidens.

Another whistleblower, Gal Luft, previously alleged that there was an informant within the FBI, known as "One Eye," who supplied the Biden family with confidential details regarding ongoing investigations. This informant is said to have played a role in assisting Hunter Biden in obtaining advantageous positions for international business negotiations. Luft disclosed this information during a House Oversight Committee hearing earlier this year. Luft informed the DOJ and FBI about the alleged mole in 2019. Recently, the DOJ announced that Luft has been indicted on various federal charges.
