President Donald Trump's Department of Justice is moving to dismiss the case against New York City Governor Eric Adams. This comes after he was subject to an investigation surrounding alleged illegal foreign campaign donations and gifts from Turkey in the form of plane tickets and luxurious hotel stays.

According to Fox New reporter Bill Melugin, reporter David Spunt reported, "DOJ is moving to dismiss the criminal case against NYC Mayor Eric Adams, with FOX obtaining a letter from acting deputy AG Emil Bove sent to SDNY, instructing them to drop the federal case against Adams and dismiss it without prejudice."

Melugin added in a follow-up post that his colleague reported that officials at the DOJ feel “the dismissal is necessary because the process was weaponized/’tainted’ against Adams.”

It was reported that the DOJ officials believe he was not able to properly carry out his responsibilities in helping to stop illegal immigration. “They believe the case hamstrung his abilities as mayor and took his focus away,” Melugin added.

In September 2024, Adams was indicted on federal criminal charges of corruption as well as bribery. He was handed down five counts, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, to receive campaign contributions by foreign nationals, wire fraud, solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national, and bribery. Adams has maintained his innocence amid the allegations.

Trump has previously suggested that Adams would get targeted by the Biden administration after he spoke out about the amount of illegal immigration happening in New York City. At the time of the charges, Trump held a press conference and said that as soon as he saw Adams speak out about the soft-border policies under the Biden-Harris administration, he knew Adams would be "indicted within a year."
