Darcy Esemonu has been charged with fraudulent schemes and artifices.
A woman who falsely accused former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trever Bauer of sexual assault has been charged with fraudulent schemes and artifices.
According to TMZ, the charge was filed against Darcy Esemonu in Arizona on Monday. A Maricopa County grand jury previously indicted her on the felony count.
In a video statement, Bauer said that the charge stemmed from allegations Esemonu made against Bauer in a 2023 lawsuit. She alleged that Bauer raped her during a 2020 encounter and that she became pregnant.
"She initiated it but don’t take my word for it, take hers," Bauer said, displaying messages he received from her the next morning "explaining why she came onto me and for months afterwards, she repeatedly requested to sleep with me again."
"At one point she had requested a sample of my sperm so she could have my child whenever she wanted to in the future," Bauer added.
Bauer denied any wrongdoing in a countersuit, stating that they did have consensual sex one time in December of 2020, during which the condom broke.
He claimed in the countersuit that Esemonu told him she was pregnant and demanded over $1 million to terminate the pregnancy.
He said it was only after Lindsey Hill made her claims against Bauer, with those claims being later "withdrawn with prejudice," that Esemonu got a lawyer. This was over a year after the encounter.
"She then demanded $3.6 million and claimed I forced her to have an abortion, leaving her emotionally devastated and irretrievably damaged by it," Bauer said.
"But here's the thing. She never had an abortion because she has never been pregnant, and that's corroborated by her own medical records."
Bauer said that Esemonu had filed more than 10 police reports claiming sexual assault or harassment against other men, "including at least one other professional athlete."
"Her Mo is clear: lie to men to get their money, extort who she must, and when they refuse to pay, stop paying or stop giving her what she wants, go to the police, accuse them of sexual assault, and file a civil suit against them to retaliate."
