Fox News has reportedly sent Tucker Carlson a "cease and desist" letter amid his massive success on Twitter. Carlson's first two episodes of his new show on Twitter has garnered 169 million views combined. The letter apparently has "NOT FOR PUBLICATION" bolded at the top, per Axios.
Carlson, who was taken off-air in April amid Fox News' Dominion settlement, has been in a contract battle with the news organization. After his Fox show was cancelled, he began hosting an abbreviated version of the show on the platform. He has done two episodes so far, and viewership has been off the charts. The first episode has raked in 114.6 million views at the time of this report, and his second episode has been viewed 54.6 million times.
Fox News is still paying Carlson, and they claim that the host's content must remain exclusive to the news corporation through Dec. 31, 2024. This would keep the popular news host quiet until after the 2024 presidential election.
However, Carlson is making the argument that his First Amendment rights allow him to post material on the social media platform. He has also suggested that Fox is guilty of material breaches of his contract.
While Carlson's show has exclusively been made up of monologues, it appears that he is planning to have guests on the show in the near future. Carlson's executive producer, Justin Wells, tweeted: "New Episode of Tucker on Twitter coming Tuesday: Tucker's response to the indictment of President Donald Trump."
When Carlson was on Fox News, his show frequently occupied the top spot on cable news, oftentimes reeling in more than 4.5 million viewers per episode. His show made its debut on the network in 2016, and it was quickly given the much-desired 8 pm EST time slot in 2017. Carlson's first monologue episode on Twitter brought in more than 25 times the number of viewers than the average viewership he had on Fox.
